Co-Teaching During Teacher Training Periods: Experiences of Finnish Special Education and General Education Teacher Candidates

Co-teaching is highlighted as an opportunity to develop inclusive practices. This study aimed investigate how teacher candidates experienced co-teaching during supervised training periods. Data were collected through pair interviews and questionnaires (N = 22). The analysis was conducted thematic analysis. Results show that the participants both possibilities challenges. Generally, they planning communication time-consuming but share ideas knowledge. They shared responsibilities equal roles, in some cases, inequalities appeared. Furthermore, saw a way meet diverse needs class, of had concerns regarding meeting individual pupils with educational plans (IEPs). Despite challenges, results valuable element training. Implications for education are discussed.
